Uncle Jay, (1999)*
Uncle Jay, once an inspirational community leader
and mentor to my wealthy California client, greeted
me through the haze of his dementia and the detritus
scattered around his Quonset hut in an abandoned
Hawaiian army base.
To me his life seemed marginal at best, but his
neighbors treated him as an integral part of their rural
community.
